The beauty about plant medicine is it calls you in even if you don’t necessarily see yourself as a traditionally homeopathic person. Plant medicine greets you in ordinary yet magical ways - maybe you walk past a flowering weed and simply notice their pleasing color, or you enjoy herbal scented home goods or body care adoration, you use spices to flavor your meals and warm your soul.
That’s the beauty about these beings, they’re healing you and you’re working in conjunction with them to make you feel alive + might just be simply unaware of how powerful their powers really are.
Being a friend of the plants is one of the most natural and accessible relationships out there. You don’t have to go to school, pay for a course or need a fancy title. The plants don’t care what people call you, all they care about is showing up with humility, curiosity, respect and a desire to work in harmony. Grab a book from the library, take notes and ingest materia medica’s, ask your local neighbors and listen to their spirit, yours and how they weave into your body with a loving embrace.
Imposter syndrome and feeling as if you don’t know enough to start is such a habitual habit within our society, understandably - just be assured that everyone starts with just a bit of curiosity. If you’re on this page reading this? They’ve called you in and welcomed you to honor this innately human need. To return home. I encourage you to nurture this tender relationship.
Historically - herbalism has been embodied by matriarchal forces ~ grandmothers, mothers, aunties, indigenous peoples, community healers + activists, brujas, farmers, midwives + doulas, genderqueers. The erasure of these peoples in modern day herbalism is an erasure of the magic + original stewards of these practices.
Meet Desirae, A.G. Owner
In 2019 Adobe Garden was founded as a mere seedling in my tiny, Adobe kitchen. I was hoping to intertwine the medicinal properties of my favorite herbs and local honey. After my first batch, I eagerly shared all the jars of honey I could within the community. I had jars + jars of herbal infused honey scattered around the warm places in my home. I harvested herbs from my garden, lovingly married the two which is how we are here today.
From 2020-2021, I walked past the commercial building we sit in today so many times and each time I’d revert back to being a small child. My imagination would run wild with a similar vision, rows of jars, jars on jars, filled with medicinals, a natural rainbow and assortment of earthy color ways, unlimited tea. I believe honoring and nurturing the eager child inside of me made this dream a tangible possibility. The hope was for people to see this vision and find themselves inspired, too. Find themselves capable of what they can bring to life with Mother Nature as a kind companion. When we opened the doors of Adobe Garden’s brick & mortar, it was just the start of this beautiful, evolutionary journey.
